Life Lately - 10.3

I want to start sharing more personal anecdotes and updates in blog form. It’s hard to explain how life has been lately - slow, sad, hot, exciting, uninspiring - basically, it’s been all over the place.

To say there has been a constant change in both good and bad ways is an understatement. I’ve been dealt a lot of blows these past few months since the pandemic started including a layoff and breakup, and I’ve had to pull myself up by the bootstraps and take it one day at a time. I could write endlessly about how I’ve been processing everything, but instead, I want to share some things that I’ve been doing.

FOOD

I know it’s cliche and overdone to say I’m a foodie, but I love food. I’ve always done a lot of cooking, but what’s gotten me through these past few months has been following along with the NYT Cooking section. I became a Sunday Times subscriber and I’ve loved this Chicken-Zucchini Meatballs With Feta and gearing up for Fall this Citrus-Glazed Pork Chops With Gingery Bok Choy is beyond!

READING

Where to begin on my recent reading updates --

Heart Talk: Poetic Wisdom for a Better Life by Cleo Wade has gotten me through every single day. I’m not kidding. Anything Cleo writes makes you feel as if she’s writing notes to you as her best friend. I can’t recommend this enough and just keep it in your purse because you never know when you’ll need a little pick-me-up.

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett is a pageturner and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Reese Witherspoon or someone bought the rights for it to turn into a series. You won’t regret it!

Sunday Print Edition NYT is my go-to and truly makes me so happy. It might be silly to you but it’s made my Sunday routine a bit more relaxed and it honestly takes me the entire week to get through the entire paper so I get a little dose of the Times on a weekly basis, ha!

WATCHING

As a house, we’ve been watching Jason Sudeikis’s latest series - Ted Lasso. I was a big fan of his from his SNL days and it’s such a charming, sweet, kind character that it’s refreshing.

LISTENING

If I just want to escape and listen to literally just my favorite comedians talk about absolutely nothing then I’ll tune into Smartless with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, & Will Arnett.

I’m also creating my chill playlist for when I want to slow down in the mornings and journal. Can’t say it’s ready yet, but if you want to follow along here’s a link. Let me know if you have anything to add!

EYEING

Clothes are the last thing I should be spending my money on, but a sleek, cute sneaker is justifiable, right? I already wear my Nike Huaraches every other day and I’ve had them for years so I think it’s time for an upgrade.

And this Nike Space Hippie 04 color combination is sex. Also, Ted Lasso has amazing sneakers in every episode so I think that's where my initial research/obsession began.

TRYING

Letting myself feel my feelings and saying “it’s ok,” at the end. One day at a time.
